Women should be alert to four diseases if experiencing dull pain in the left side of the abdomen
Women should be alert to possible conditions such as ureteral stones, peptic ulcers, or left adnexal inflammation when experiencing dull pain on the left side of the abdomen.
1. Left Ureteral Stone
The ureter runs through the middle and lower left abdomen. When a ureteral stone becomes impacted, it can cause ureteral dilation and fluid accumulation, leading to pain due to irritation of the ureter. This may also cause radiating pain into the groin area.
2. Peptic Ulcer
Excessive gastric acid secretion irritates the gastric mucosa. As the ulcer worsens and extends into the muscular mucosal layer, it causes pain, particularly after eating when food stimulates the ulcerated area.
3. Left Adnexitis
This occurs when the left adnexa are infected by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus or Neisseria gonorrhoeae, resulting in inflammation and pain due to inflammatory stimulation.
In addition, conditions such as pelvic inflammatory disease may also be responsible. A proper diagnosis requires medical evaluation and diagnostic tests at a hospital, followed by appropriate treatment.
