Introduction
Redness at the base of eyelashes on the lower eyelid may result from an allergic reaction caused by contact with allergenic substances. It could also be due to poor eyelid hygiene, where excess oil blocks the hair follicle openings, leading to inflammation from impaired oil drainage. Additionally, infection of the sebaceous or sweat glands at the eyelash follicle base by Staphylococcus aureus can cause inflammation and redness in the lower eyelid lash area.

Redness at the base of the lower eyelid lashes may be caused by allergic blepharitis, folliculitis, or hordeolum (stye), among other reasons.

1. Allergic Blepharitis

This occurs when the skin of the eyelids comes into contact with substances such as cosmetics, hair dyes, airborne pollen, or animal fur. These allergens irritate the eyelid skin and trigger an allergic reaction.

2. Folliculitis

If eye area hygiene is neglected, excessive sebum secretion from the eyelid can block the openings of hair follicles, leading to inflammation due to impaired oil drainage.

3. Hordeolum (Stye)

This develops when the sebaceous or sweat glands at the base of an eyelash follicle become infected with Staphylococcus aureus, resulting in inflammatory irritation.

In addition, it could also be caused by blepharitis. For an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment, a visit to a qualified medical facility for comprehensive evaluation is recommended.
