Should I take 10 mg or 20 mg of atorvastatin calcium tablets?
The daily dosage of atorvastatin calcium tablets for patients with high blood lipids should be determined based on the individual patient's condition.
Atorvastatin calcium tablets are used to treat hypercholesterolemia and coronary heart disease. For patients who are just starting this medication, the recommended initial dose is 10 mg. Lipid levels should be rechecked afterward; if the therapeutic effect is inadequate, the dose may be adjusted to 20 mg.
If a patient’s lipid levels are relatively high, especially during an acute phase, increased drug dosage may be required for intervention. A 20 mg dose can reduce lipid levels by 40%–47%. However, note that although the dose does not double, the lipid-lowering effect can nearly double. Once lipid levels reach target goals, patients should continue long-term therapy, possibly reducing the atorvastatin calcium dosage to achieve sustained, effective lipid control. Medication must be taken as prescribed—patients should not adjust the dosage or switch medications without medical guidance.
Patients are advised to maintain a low-fat diet, engage in appropriate exercise, enhance immunity, and have their lipid levels regularly monitored during treatment.
