Introduction
Congenital lens opacity belongs to congenital cataracts. Congenital cataracts may be caused by genetic inheritance, intrauterine infection, gestational diabetes, and other factors. The lens, located behind the iris of the eye, is normally transparent. However, in children with congenital cataracts, the lens becomes cloudy, leading to blurred and distorted images.

Congenital lens opacity is a form of congenital cataract.

Congenital cataracts may be caused by genetic inheritance, intrauterine infection, gestational diabetes, or other factors. The lens, located behind the iris of the eye, is normally transparent. However, in children with congenital cataracts, the lens becomes cloudy, leading to blurred and distorted vision. Common symptoms include blurred vision, decreased visual acuity, and double vision.

In most cases, children with congenital cataracts should undergo surgery as early as possible to reduce the risk of complications such as glaucoma, retinal detachment, and blindness. Common surgical procedures include anterior vitrectomy and intraocular lens implantation.
