Introduction
Food that causes stomach upset without bacterial contamination usually disrupts gastrointestinal function but generally does not lead to fever, as it does not disturb the function of the body's temperature regulation center. However, if the food is contaminated with bacteria, the bacterial toxins may disrupt the function of the temperature regulation center or cause congestion of the gastrointestinal mucosa, damaging the body's immune cells and thereby inducing fever.

Whether eating spoiled food causes fever depends on the individual's specific condition.

1. No: If the food consumed is not contaminated by bacteria, gastrointestinal discomfort may result from eating undercooked or raw/cold foods, leading to intestinal dysfunction. Symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur, but these typically do not disrupt the body's temperature regulation center, so fever is unlikely.

2. Yes: If the food is contaminated with bacteria such as Proteus, Salmonella, or Vibrio parahaemolyticus, bacterial toxins may interfere with the function of the body's temperature regulation center after invading the gastrointestinal tract, potentially causing fever. Additionally, these bacteria may cause congestion of the gastrointestinal mucosa, damage immune cells, and lead to fever. They can also cause bacterial infection of the intestinal mucosa, resulting in intestinal spasms and abdominal pain. Moreover, patients may experience mucoid or watery stools.

It is recommended that individuals avoid consuming unhygienic, spoiled, or rotten food in daily life.
