What does bronchospasm mean
Bronchospasm refers to the sudden contraction of the bronchial muscles.
Bronchospasm occurs when the smooth muscles in the airway region contract or narrow. It can cause adverse symptoms such as coughing, wheezing, and shortness of breath. Various factors, including genetic predisposition, inflammatory conditions, and allergic reactions, may trigger bronchospasm, as seen in conditions such as acute bronchitis, allergic asthma, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Treatment for bronchospasm depends on the underlying cause. For cases triggered by allergies, anti-allergic medications such as ketotifen fumarate tablets, montelukast sodium tablets, or sodium cromoglicate aerosol may be used under medical supervision. For cases caused by bacterial infection, anti-infective therapy with medications such as cefoperazone sodium and sulbactam sodium for injection, cefixime dispersible tablets, or roxithromycin dispersible tablets should be strictly administered according to medical advice.
