The episiotomy site from vaginal delivery always feels uncomfortable.
A persistent uncomfortable sensation at the site of perineal tearing after vaginal delivery may be caused by local friction, wound infection, or incomplete wound healing. Symptoms can be relieved and treated with medication.
1. Local Friction
Prolonged walking after childbirth may cause friction at the wound site. Wearing tight underwear or pants frequently can also lead to irritation as the wound rubs against fabric, resulting in a feeling of swelling and pain. Under a doctor's guidance, iodophor can be applied to disinfect and reduce inflammation at the wound site.
2. Wound Infection
The uterus often contains residual blood clots and lochia, which are expelled from the body through the vagina. If dressing changes and disinfection are not performed promptly, lochia may remain on the wound in the genital area, promoting bacterial growth. This can lead to wound infection, causing pain and pus discharge. As directed by a physician, medications such as cefixime capsules, amoxicillin capsules, or azithromycin capsules—known for their anti-inflammatory properties—may be used.
3. Incomplete Wound Healing
Healing of vaginal tears requires time. During recovery, minor bleeding, swelling, and pain at the wound site are normal symptoms.
In addition to the above, improper wound suturing could also be a potential cause. It is recommended to seek medical evaluation to determine the exact underlying cause.
