Is it better to have the 4D ultrasound at 22 weeks or 23 weeks?
The optimal time for a four-dimensional ultrasound is generally recommended between 22 and 26 weeks of pregnancy.
Between 22 and 26 weeks, the fetus is relatively small, has greater mobility, and has a well-developed body surface, making it favorable for screening fetal abnormalities and performing 4D ultrasound imaging. The 4D scan is typically used to examine the placenta, amniotic fluid, and fetal organs such as the skull, brain, ventricles, cerebellum, face, skin, lungs, heart, and liver.
Due to individual differences in maternal health and fetal development, the exact timing of the examination should be determined under a doctor's guidance. If major congenital anomalies or malformations—such as anencephaly, brain deformities, or visceral evisceration—are detected during this scan, termination of pregnancy can be considered before 28 weeks.
In addition to the 4D ultrasound, it is essential to follow medical advice and complete all other routine prenatal checkups to monitor fetal growth. Maintaining a positive mood, consuming plenty of fresh vegetables, fruits, and high-quality protein, and avoiding spicy, raw, cold, greasy, or stimulating foods are also important for healthy fetal development.
