How to perform a female urethral swab
Female urethral swab involves inserting a cotton swab into the urethra and removing it after 1 to 4 minutes for examination. This procedure should be performed at a正规 hospital, with the specific steps as follows:
1. Before entering the examination room, the patient should clean the labia majora, labia minora, and urethral opening with water, then dry the area thoroughly with a towel to maintain local cleanliness and dryness.
2. After entering the examination room, the patient lies in a supine position on the examination table with knees bent. The doctor puts on sterile gloves and performs routine disinfection of the patient's perineal area.
3. One hand is used to separate the labia majora and minora to expose the urethral opening, while the other hand takes a moistened urethral swab and inserts it 2 to 3 centimeters into the urethra.
4. The swab is gently rotated evenly against the urethral mucosa, left in place for 1 to 4 minutes, then carefully and slowly withdrawn.
5. The swab, now containing secretions, is placed into a specimen container and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
It is important that the patient avoids urinating for at least two hours prior to the test, as urination may wash away material from the urethra and lead to inaccurate results.
