How to exercise for female urinary incontinence caused by coughing
Women experiencing urinary incontinence due to coughing can generally choose to perform Kegel exercises for improvement, preferably under the guidance of a healthcare professional. The specific steps are as follows:
1. During urination, try to interrupt the urine stream and identify the muscles you use to stop the flow—these are your pelvic floor muscles.
2. After finishing urination, lie flat on your back with knees bent and legs spaced hip-width apart. Place one or two pillows beneath your pelvis to elevate your hips slightly higher than your chest.
3. Inhale to relax, then exhale while tightening your pelvic floor muscles. Hold the contraction for five seconds, then slowly release.
4. After relaxing the muscles for ten seconds, contract them again. Repeat this cycle ten times per set, aiming for three sets per session.
Empty your bladder before exercising to avoid discomfort or accidental urine leakage during the workout.
