How to use a urinary catheterization kit
Urinary catheterization kits are medical devices used for catheterization procedures and urine drainage. The procedure must be performed by trained professionals. Taking female patients as an example, the specific steps are as follows:
1. After the patient enters the procedure room, she lies supine on the examination table. The physician puts on sterile gloves and performs routine disinfection of the urethral opening, then lays down sterile drapes.
2. The physician opens the catheterization kit and evenly applies lubricant to the shaft and tip of the urinary catheter.
3. Use a syringe to inflate the colored channel to check the balloon; inflation confirms that the catheter is intact.
4. Using forceps, gently and slowly insert the catheter tip into the patient's urethral opening. Once urine begins to flow, advance the catheter another 5–7 cm.
5. Use a syringe to inject 8–15 ml of normal saline into the colored channel, causing the balloon to inflate inside the bladder.
6. Connect the colorless channel to the urine collection bag tubing.
Sterile technique must be strictly maintained throughout the procedure to prevent cross-infection.
