Shaking all over in the morning upon waking
Trembling all over upon waking up in the morning may result from physiological causes, or it could be due to pathological conditions such as hypoglycemia, hypotension, epilepsy, and others. Targeted treatment should be based on the specific underlying cause.
I. Physiological Causes
When waking up, brain cells and nerves are also activated, increasing excitability. This leads to heightened activity in the central nervous system's control of muscles, which may result in whole-body tremors. If one wakes up in a cold environment, the body's exposure to cold stimulation can trigger muscle contractions to generate heat, thereby causing shivering. After waking, it is important to stay warm, remain alert, and keep emotions stable.
II. Pathological Causes
1. Hypoglycemia
The nighttime period is a high-risk time for hypoglycemia. Upon waking, an episode of low blood sugar can activate the sympathetic nervous system, leading to symptoms such as full-body tremors, pale complexion, sweating, and rapid heartbeat. In such cases, immediate food intake is necessary, or treatment with a 50% glucose solution under medical guidance should be administered.
2. Hypotension
Upon rising in the morning, if hypotension occurs, it may cause widespread, diffuse cerebral ischemia, resulting in symptoms such as confusion and generalized trembling. Timely medical intervention is required, including medications such as carbamazepine extended-release tablets or enteric-coated aspirin tablets, as directed by a physician.
Besides the above, tremors upon waking could also be caused by epilepsy. If symptoms persist without improvement, prompt medical evaluation at a hospital is recommended to determine the exact cause under the guidance of a qualified physician and to receive standardized treatment.
