Is an hCG level that triples every other day a sign of a molar pregnancy?
HCG doubling every other day by a factor of three is generally not indicative of a molar pregnancy.
Under normal circumstances, during pregnancy, a woman's HCG levels typically increase two- to threefold every 48 hours. In cases of molar pregnancy, however, the HCG rise is significantly higher than normal—sometimes increasing tenfold, or even dozens or hundreds of times over within 48 hours. Therefore, a threefold increase every other day does not suggest a molar pregnancy. Additionally, an elevated HCG doubling rate may also result from conditions such as twin pregnancy, ectopic pregnancy, or choriocarcinoma. It is important to cooperate with your doctor for further examinations to determine the exact cause and receive appropriate, targeted treatment.
During pregnancy, women can monitor fetal development by tracking HCG doubling patterns, and should promptly follow medical advice for treatment if any abnormalities are detected.
