Introduction
Yellow discharge from the breast may be caused by conditions such as cystic hyperplasia of the breast, mastitis, or intraductal papilloma. Cystic hyperplasia is mainly due to an imbalance between progesterone and estrogen levels, while intraductal papilloma results from persistently elevated estrogen levels. Besides these causes, it could also be due to breast tumors.

Yellow discharge from the breast may be caused by conditions such as cystic hyperplasia of the breast, mastitis, or intraductal papilloma.

1. Cystic Hyperplasia of the Breast

Cystic hyperplasia of the breast is primarily caused by an imbalance between progesterone and estrogen levels. It manifests as lumps, swelling, tenderness, and nipple discharge in one or both breasts. Under medical guidance, the condition can be improved with medications such as tamoxifen tablets, Xiaoyao Pills, or Xiaoyao Powder, which have blood-activating, stasis-resolving, and anti-inflammatory effects.

2. Mastitis

Mastitis is a breast inflammation caused by bacterial infection, presenting symptoms such as breast lumps, nipple discharge, and pain. As directed by a physician, it can be treated with antibiotics like penicillin granules, cefalexin granules, or amoxicillin capsules, which help reduce inflammation.

3. Intraductal Papilloma

Intraductal papilloma results from persistently elevated estrogen levels. Symptoms include nipple discharge that may appear yellow, dark brown, or bloody. Patients should promptly visit a qualified medical facility and, under a doctor’s care, undergo surgical removal of the affected milk ducts.

Besides the above causes, breast tumors may also lead to such symptoms. It is recommended that patients seek timely medical evaluation at a hospital and receive treatment based on the specific underlying cause.
