Introduction
Ganglion cysts are fluid-filled sacs that form around tendons. Possible causes of ganglion cysts include congenital factors, tissue injury, chronic trauma or overuse, joint diseases, and inflammatory responses. In individual cases, ganglion cysts may be associated with congenital abnormalities. Some people may be born with structural defects in their tendons or bursae, making them more prone to developing ganglion cysts.

A ganglion cyst is a fluid-filled swelling that develops around a tendon. In general, possible causes of ganglion cysts include congenital factors, tissue injury, chronic trauma or overuse, joint diseases, and inflammatory responses.

1. Congenital factors: In some cases, ganglion cysts may be related to congenital abnormalities. Some individuals may be born with structural defects in tendons or bursae, making them more prone to developing cysts in the tendon sheath.

2. Tissue injury: Damage to tissues surrounding the tendon, such as tears, sprains, or traumatic injuries, may sometimes lead to fluid accumulation and result in cyst formation around the tendon.

3. Chronic trauma or overuse: Repetitive motions or excessive use of a particular joint or tendon area can cause chronic trauma, which may trigger the development of ganglion cysts. Such trauma or injury disrupts the tissues surrounding the tendon, leading to cyst formation within the tendon sheath.

4. Joint diseases: Certain joint conditions, such as rheumatoid arthritis or osteoarthritis, may cause inflammation around the joints and excessive accumulation of synovial fluid, thereby promoting the formation of ganglion cysts.

5. Inflammatory response: Inflammation is also a common cause of ganglion cyst development. Inflammatory reactions around the tendon stimulate the body to produce excess synovial fluid, leading to fluid buildup in the tendon sheath area and ultimately resulting in cyst formation.

If any of the above conditions are present, patients are advised to seek medical evaluation early and receive timely treatment.
