Introduction
Running with a side stitch generally should not continue. A side stitch during running can easily cause acute chest and rib pain, may lead to irregular breathing, reduce lung ventilation function, result in bodily hypoxia and discomfort. When this occurs, running usually should be stopped. It is recommended to cease running and adjust your breathing rhythm. If discomfort persists, seek medical attention promptly.

Running with a side stitch usually makes it inadvisable to continue running, to avoid worsening physical discomfort.

A side stitch during running may result from insufficient regular exercise. Suddenly starting to run can cause the body to temporarily fail to adapt to the breathing rate required during physical activity, leading to spasmodic contractions in certain muscles involved in movement or functional intestinal spasms. This often causes acute chest or rib pain and may also lead to irregular breathing, reduced lung ventilation, bodily hypoxia, and general discomfort. When this occurs, continuing to run is generally not recommended.

If you experience a side stitch while running, it's advised to stop running and regulate your breathing rhythm through techniques such as gentle shallow breathing, deepened breaths, slow and deep inhalation, or forceful exhalation. If discomfort persists, prompt medical consultation is necessary.
