What does it mean when creatine kinase is elevated to 700 U/L?
Elevated creatine kinase (CK) levels of 700 U/L may be due to normal physiological conditions, or could result from pathological conditions such as viral myocarditis or coronary heart disease.
1. Normal physiological phenomenon
During physical exercise, the permeability of cells changes. Since creatine kinase is stored in muscle cells, intense physical activity can lead to a temporary and abnormal increase in CK levels. This is considered a normal physiological response and usually does not require specific treatment.
2. Viral myocarditis
Inflammation of the heart muscle caused by viral infection can lead to myocardial cell necrosis, allowing creatine kinase from within the heart muscle to leak into the bloodstream, thereby increasing CK levels. Treatment may include medications such as ribavirin tablets or amoxicillin capsules, under medical supervision.
3. Coronary heart disease
Coronary heart disease is caused by narrowing or blockage of the coronary arteries, which reduces venous blood return and leads to myocardial ischemia and elevated creatine kinase levels. Management may include medications such as simvastatin tablets or enteric-coated aspirin tablets, as directed by a physician. In severe cases, coronary artery stenting may be necessary.
Besides the above causes, elevated CK levels may also be associated with conditions such as acute myocardial infarction. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation and treatment.
