Introduction
Pentavalent vaccine refers to a combination vaccine containing inactivated polio vaccine, acellular diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, and Haemophilus influenzae type b vaccine. It can prevent pertussis, poliomyelitis, diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae type b infection, and tetanus. If redness and swelling occur after receiving the pentavalent vaccine, management methods include wearing loose clothing, applying cold compresses, keeping the area clean and dry, avoiding scratching, and using medication if necessary.

The pentavalent vaccine is a combination vaccine containing inactivated poliovirus vaccine, acellular diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccine. It helps prevent pertussis, poliomyelitis, diphtheria, Haemophilus influenzae type b infection, and tetanus. If redness and swelling occur after receiving the pentavalent vaccine, the following measures can be taken: wearing loose clothing, cold compresses, keeping the area clean and dry, avoiding scratching, and medical treatment if necessary. Seek immediate medical attention if symptoms persist or worsen. Specific recommendations are as follows:

1. Wear loose clothing: Patients should wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes to avoid skin irritation caused by tight garments, which may lead to infection or worsen redness and swelling.

2. Cold compress: Gently apply an ice pack or cold compress to the injection site for 10–15 minutes at a time. Cold compresses help reduce inflammation and swelling and provide soothing relief. Ensure the cold pack does not touch the skin directly—wrap it in gauze or a towel.

3. Keep the area clean and dry: Maintain cleanliness and dryness at the injection site. Avoid using irritating cosmetics or skincare products. Gently clean the area with lukewarm water and pat dry with a clean, soft towel.

4. Avoid scratching: Do not scratch the injection site to prevent infection or skin damage. If itching occurs, gently tap the area or use a cool breeze to relieve discomfort.

5. Medication: If redness and swelling are severe, follow a doctor's advice to disinfect the area with iodophor. Topical medications such as lincomycin lidocaine gel, mometasone furoate cream, or hydrocortisone butyrate cream may also be applied as directed to reduce inflammation.

Patients should maintain a light diet and ensure adequate sleep to support recovery.
