Introduction
Whether it is good for a child to not use a pillow for an extended period depends on specific circumstances. For infants under 3 months of age, using a pillow long-term can easily affect the normal development of the cervical spine, so it is better not to use a pillow. However, for children older than 3 months, not using a pillow over a long period is generally not advisable, as it may lead to skull deformation and adversely affect brain development or cause abnormal cervical spine development.

Whether it is good or bad for a child to go a long time without using a pillow cannot be generalized; it depends on the specific circumstances.

1. Good

If the child is under 3 months old, it is generally unsuitable to use a pillow because their body has not yet fully developed and the cervical spine has not formed the natural forward curvature. Using a pillow over a prolonged period at this stage may alter the physiological curve of the cervical spine, affecting its normal development and potentially leading to cervical spine developmental abnormalities or improper spinal curvature. Therefore, it is better for young infants to avoid using a pillow for an extended period.

2. Bad

For children older than 3 months, prolonged non-use of a pillow is generally not advisable, as these children have relatively long sleep durations. Not using a pillow may exert excessive pressure on the head, potentially causing skull deformation, interfering with the normal growth and development of brain tissue, and even resulting in abnormal cervical spine development.

It is recommended to select pillows of appropriate width and height according to the child's age to meet the developmental needs of the head and neck.
