Coughing at night frequently wakes me up during sleep.
Waking up frequently due to coughing during sleep at night may be caused by airway irritation, acid reflux, respiratory infections, etc., and symptomatic treatment should be carried out under a doctor's guidance.
1. Airway Irritation
Irritants such as smoke, air pollution, and strong odors can stimulate the respiratory tract and cause coughing. It is important to maintain fresh indoor air, avoid exposure to smoke and unpleasant odors, keep room temperature comfortable, and use comfortable bedding.
2. Acid Reflux
Stomach acid flowing back into the esophagus and throat can irritate the airways and lead to coughing. Medications such as esomeprazole tablets or omeprazole tablets may be taken under medical supervision for treatment.
3. Respiratory Infections
Conditions such as the common cold, influenza, and bronchitis can cause inflammation in the throat, trachea, and bronchi, resulting in coughing. Under a doctor’s guidance, medications like amoxicillin capsules or azithromycin capsules may be used for treatment.
In addition, coughing could also be due to allergic causes. It is advisable to get adequate rest, avoid staying up late, wear a mask when going outdoors, and stay away from heavily polluted environments.
