Introduction
In general, a mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) level below the normal average of 26 pg is considered abnormal. Low MCH may be associated with malnutrition, inflammation, or other causes, and requires treatment through general measures or medication. A decreased MCH level may also have some relationship with genetic factors.

The normal range for MCH is 27–34 pg. A value of 26 pg falls below the lower limit of the normal range and is therefore considered abnormal, although not severely so—this indicates a mild decrease. If this condition persists over time, it may lead to iron deficiency in the body. Insufficient iron levels can easily result in anemia, causing MCH levels to drop below normal. In mild cases, symptoms can be alleviated by increasing dietary intake of iron-rich foods to improve nutritional status. Additionally, chronic inflammation within the body may disrupt iron metabolism, leading to reduced red blood cell production and decreased MCH levels. In more severe cases, treatment under a physician's guidance may include medications such as three-dimensional ferrous oral solution or cefixime dispersible tablets.
Moreover, MCH levels below the normal range may also be related to genetic factors.
