Is it better to undergo more hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions inside the chamber?

Introduction
The patient should maintain their normal respiratory rate inside the hyperbaric oxygen chamber and remain physically and mentally relaxed. Accelerated breathing is not advisable, as gas within the physiological dead space cannot be effectively expelled from the body. This leads to two adverse effects: (1) increased carbon dioxide retention in the body, and (2) a relative decrease in oxygen concentration within the physiological dead space, thereby impairing the formation of the hyperbaric oxygen effect. Therefore, the notion that “the more breaths per minute, the better” is unfounded.

Rapid breathing is ineffective in expelling gases from the physiological dead space, leading to two adverse consequences: first, increased retention of carbon dioxide within the body; second, a relative decrease in oxygen concentration within the physiological dead space, thereby impairing the formation of the hyperbaric oxygen effect.

Therefore, the notion that “more breaths per minute are always better” is unfounded; on the contrary, hyperventilation may exert detrimental effects on the body.
