Vestibular balance training method
When a patient experiences vestibular dysfunction, symptoms such as dizziness, vertigo, and balance disorders may occur. These can generally be improved through vestibular rehabilitation exercises. The specific steps are as follows:
1. Have the patient sit upright on a chair while the doctor places three objects in front, to the left, and to the right of the patient.
2. Instruct the patient to keep their head still and use only their eyes to look at each object for one or two seconds, repeating this back and forth 15 to 20 times.
3. The doctor raises one finger directly in front of the patient and instructs the patient to turn their head to the left, looking toward a 45-degree angle, and hold for three seconds.
4. Then, return the gaze to the forward position, pause for three seconds, and turn the head to the right, looking toward a 45-degree angle on the right side.
5. The patient stands up and performs single-leg standing, followed by walking in a straight line by placing the heel of one foot directly in front of the toes of the standing foot.
The training should not be excessive; it must be tailored according to the patient’s individual physical condition. Overtraining may produce counterproductive effects.
