Can functional dyspepsia heal on its own?
In general, whether functional dyspepsia can resolve spontaneously depends on the individual patient's condition. If the condition is mild, it can usually resolve on its own; however, if it is severe, spontaneous recovery is unlikely. The specific analysis is as follows:
1. Can resolve spontaneously
Functional dyspepsia is usually caused by factors such as diet and unhealthy lifestyle habits. If the condition is mild, with no obvious organic lesions present, and the patient adopts healthy dietary and lifestyle habits, the symptoms typically resolve spontaneously.
2. Cannot resolve spontaneously
If the patient's condition is severe and involves organic lesions—such as chronic gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux disease—and presents clear symptoms including significant bloating, acid reflux, belching, vomiting, and nausea, spontaneous resolution is unlikely. In such cases, medical treatment under a doctor’s guidance is necessary. Commonly used medications include enteric-coated tablets such as rabeprazole sodium, pantoprazole, and rabeprazole sodium.
During treatment, patients should avoid binge eating, as well as consuming greasy or irritating foods, to prevent worsening of symptoms.
