Introduction
The seven-item blood biochemical test primarily examines total bilirubin, indirect bilirubin, direct bilirubin, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, creatine, and uric acid. Bilirubin metabolism is related to the liver and mainly involves unconjugated bilirubin in the blood as well as the uptake, excretion, and conjugation of unconjugated bilirubin by liver cells. The normal reference range is 5.13 μmol/L to 22.24 μmol/L.

Blood biochemical tests with 7 items primarily examine total bilirubin, indirect bilirubin, direct bilirubin, blood urea nitrogen (BUN), creatinine, creatine, and uric acid.

1. Total Bilirubin

Bilirubin metabolism is closely related to liver function and mainly involves unconjugated bilirubin in the blood, as well as its uptake, conjugation, and excretion by liver cells. The normal reference range is 5.13 μmol/L to 22.24 μmol/L.

2. Indirect Bilirubin

Indirect bilirubin is also known clinically as unconjugated bilirubin—bilirubin that has not yet combined with glucuronic acid. Its level directly reflects hepatocyte transformation function and the status of red blood cell breakdown. The normal reference range is 1.7 μmol/L to 10.2 μmol/L.

3. Direct Bilirubin

Also known as conjugated bilirubin, this test can help determine the type of jaundice to some extent. The normal range for adult total bilirubin is 3.4 μmol/L to 17.1 μmol/L.

4. Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN)

BUN refers to the nitrogen content of urea in plasma, which is a nitrogen-containing compound. This test evaluates kidney function. The normal reference range is 2.9 μmol/L to 7.5 mmol/L.

5. Creatinine

Creatinine is a metabolic product of muscle metabolism, filtered by the glomeruli and excreted from the body. It is classified into serum creatinine and urine creatinine. Normal serum creatinine levels are: males, 54 μmol/L to 106 μmol/L; females, 44 μmol/L to 97 μmol/L; children, 24.9 μmol/L to 69.7 μmol/L. The reference value for urine creatinine is 8.4 μmol/L to 13.25 mmol per 24-hour urine.

6. Creatine

Creatine is a nitrogen-containing organic acid that provides energy to nerve cells and muscles. It is generally synthesized from arginine, glycine, and methionine. The normal value for males is 12.96 μmol/L to 38.1 μmol/L, and for females, 26.7 μmol/L to 70.9 μmol/L.

7. Uric Acid

Uric acid is a metabolic byproduct. Under normal conditions, uric acid levels in the body remain balanced. However, poor diet or long-term unhealthy lifestyle habits may lead to abnormal uric acid metabolism. The normal range for males is 150 μmol/L to 420 μmol/L, and for females, 90 μmol/L to 357 μmol/L.

It is recommended to undergo the seven-item blood biochemical test at a reputable hospital. Preparation for the test should be done under the guidance of a physician.
