Introduction
The gallbladder ejection fraction is generally considered normal when it is ≥1/2 of the ejection fraction (EF). The gallbladder is an organ that stores bile secreted by the liver. When bile is stored in the gallbladder, the organ becomes distended. Gallbladder emptying typically refers to the process whereby, after food intake, the mucosa of the duodenum is stimulated by food, leading to the release of cholecystokinin—a hormone that induces gallbladder contraction.

The gallbladder is an organ that stores bile secreted by the liver. When bile is stored in the gallbladder, the organ appears full. Gallbladder emptying typically refers to the process triggered after food intake: the mucosa of the duodenum is stimulated by food, leading to the release of cholecystokinin—a hormone that causes the gallbladder to contract and immediately discharge bile into the duodenum, thereby promoting digestion and absorption of fats. As bile is expelled, bacteria present in the bile ducts and bile are also eliminated. Typically, the gallbladder empties completely within about half an hour. The degree of gallbladder emptying can be assessed using an index. Generally, an EF ≥ 1/2 indicates good contractile function; an EF between 1/2 and 1/3 suggests moderate emptying ability; an EF between 1/3 and 1/5 reflects poor contractile function; and if EF < 1/5, this indicates significantly impaired gallbladder emptying. Poor gallbladder emptying function may result from abnormal gallbladder contraction, commonly associated with conditions such as gallbladder atrophy or gallstones.

In daily life, patients should pay attention to their diet, favoring light and easily digestible foods, avoiding spicy and irritating foods. They should also ensure adequate rest and maintain a proper balance between work and relaxation.
