Video of laparoscopic ureterotomy for stone removal
Laparoscopic ureterolithotomy is a treatment method that uses a laparoscope, approaching either through the retroperitoneal space or the abdominal cavity, to locate ureteral stones, make an incision in the ureteral wall, and directly remove the stone. This procedure must be performed at a qualified hospital. The specific steps are as follows:
1. The patient lies on their side on the operating table. The anesthesiologist administers general anesthesia, while the surgeon performs routine disinfection of the patient's flank area and drapes the surgical field.
2. After anesthesia takes effect, a horizontal skin incision approximately 2 cm long is made two finger-widths above the iliac crest along the midaxillary line. A Veress needle is inserted into the incision to introduce carbon dioxide and establish a pneumoperitoneum.
3. After removing the Veress needle, a trocar is inserted at the incision site, followed by insertion of the laparoscope.
4. Two additional small incisions are made near the initial incision to insert vascular clamps and surgical scissors. Under laparoscopic visualization, the ureter is located.
5. A long curved vascular clamp is used to fully mobilize the segments of the ureter on both sides of the stone. Then, the ureter is incised and the stone is removed.
6. The ureteral incision is closed with absorbable sutures. Instruments are withdrawn and the skin incision is sutured.
After surgery, patients should maintain a balanced and nutritious diet, consuming foods rich in vitamins, proteins, and trace elements to support recovery and meet the body’s nutritional needs.
