For some patients with previously positive results on standard DNA testing who continue to show abnormal liver function or signs suggestive of cirrhosis, high-sensitivity DNA testing may also be recommended.

The high-sensitivity DNA test can detect lower levels of viral load and is primarily a method for detecting hepatitis B virus (HBV) DNA.
