Can vaginal wall prolapse after a normal delivery recover?
After a vaginal delivery, vaginal wall prolapse can usually be restored with active exercises or proper treatment; however, if left untreated, it may not recover.
1. Possible
Vaginal wall prolapse after vaginal delivery refers to the condition in which the pelvic floor muscles, fascia, and uterine ligaments—due to weakened vaginal support tissues from childbirth—protrude outside the vaginal opening. This is considered a normal physiological phenomenon. With regular Kegel exercises or medical treatments such as acupuncture that promote pelvic floor muscle contraction, recovery is usually possible.
2. Not possible
If the vaginal prolapse is severe—for example, when vaginal wall tissue is exposed externally—and the condition is ignored without active intervention, recovery is unlikely. This may lead to urinary incontinence or even organ prolapse.
After experiencing vaginal wall prolapse following a vaginal delivery, it is recommended to promptly visit the obstetrics and gynecology department of a hospital for proper medical treatment to improve the condition and prevent negative impacts on daily life.
