What causes long-term coughing?
Prolonged coughing may be caused by conditions such as pharyngitis, bronchiectasis, or bronchial asthma, and medical consultation is necessary for targeted treatment under a doctor's guidance.
1. Pharyngitis
When inflammation occurs in the throat, the mucous membranes of the laryngeal cavity and airways may be chronically irritated, leading to throat discomfort and persistent coughing. It is recommended to follow medical advice and use anti-inflammatory and antiviral medications such as Acyclovir tablets, Ribavirin tablets, or Penicillin V potassium tablets.
2. Bronchiectasis
When bronchi become dilated, the elasticity of the bronchial walls decreases, impairing effective clearance of foreign substances and secretions from the respiratory tract, which can irritate the airways and cause chronic coughing. Under medical supervision, medications such as Moxifloxacin hydrochloride tablets, Formoterol fumarate tablets, or Amoxicillin-clavulanate potassium tablets may be used to improve symptoms.
3. Bronchial Asthma
During asthma attacks, the lungs undergo abnormal expansion and contraction, potentially damaging surrounding bronchial tissues and resulting in long-term coughing. It is advisable to follow medical instructions and use medications such as Montelukast sodium tablets, Doxofylline tablets, or Beclomethasone dipropionate inhaler to relieve symptoms.
In addition, chronic tonsillitis may also lead to frequent coughing, and timely medical evaluation and treatment according to a physician’s guidance are necessary.
