Which is more conducive to pregnancy: anteverted uterus or retroverted uterus?
Anteverted and retroverted uteruses are both common uterine positions, with the anteverted uterus generally having a higher chance of conception compared to the retroverted uterus.
1. Anteverted Uterus
With an anteverted uterus, the cervix points downward toward the posterior vaginal fornix and is positioned lower, making it easier for the cervix to be bathed in semen after intercourse. This facilitates sperm entry through the cervical os and increases the likelihood of fertilization.
2. Retroverted Uterus
In a retroverted uterus, the cervix tilts upward, which may hinder sperm from entering the uterine cavity and reduce the probability of fertilization. Although normal pregnancy is still possible, the chances are somewhat lower compared to an anteverted uterus. It is recommended to use the prone position (such as lying face down) during intercourse, which can help sperm enter the uterine cavity and improve the likelihood of conception.
Both anteverted and retroverted uterine positions are normal. When trying to conceive, it's advisable to calculate the ovulation period accurately and plan intercourse accordingly to maximize the chances of pregnancy.
