Can myasthenia gravis be cured?
Myasthenia gravis generally cannot be completely cured. However, if patients actively receive targeted treatment from physicians and their condition is mild, there is a possibility of cure. The details are as follows:
1. Cannot
Myasthenia gravis is an acquired autoimmune disorder primarily characterized by impaired neuromuscular transmission leading to skeletal muscle weakness. At the onset of the disease, symptoms typically appear in extraocular muscles, pharyngeal muscles, and limb muscles, and may later involve other skeletal muscles and respiratory muscles. Currently, there is no specific clinical method to cure myasthenia gravis; therefore, complete recovery is generally not possible.
2. Can
If the patient's condition is mild and they actively undergo treatment, a cure may be possible. It is recommended that patients take medications such as pyridostigmine bromide tablets or ambenonium chloride tablets under medical supervision. In some cases, treatments such as plasmapheresis or thymectomy may be necessary.
During treatment, patients should maintain proper weight control and limit daily activities; strenuous exercise is not recommended. If a patient experiences myasthenic crisis or is bedridden, family members should provide enhanced daily care to prevent complications such as pulmonary infections and pressure ulcers.
