What causes men to feel cold easily, and how to address it?
Men may feel cold due to reasons such as wind-cold感冒 (common cold due to wind and cold), kidney yang deficiency, or qi deficiency. These conditions can be managed through oral medications, acupuncture, and other treatments, as detailed below:
1. Wind-Cold Common Cold
If clothing is not adjusted promptly according to weather changes, the body may be invaded by cold pathogens, leading to a wind-cold type of common cold. Excess internal coldness during illness can cause symptoms such as cold limbs, coldness and pain in the lower back and knees. Under medical guidance, treatment may include granules such as Fenghan Ganmao Ning Granules, Fenghan Ganmao Granules, or Jingfang Granules.
2. Kidney Yang Deficiency
Excessive sexual activity, alcohol abuse, and similar factors may trigger kidney yang deficiency. When this occurs, the body's warming function declines, resulting in symptoms like cold limbs and sensitivity to cold. Under medical supervision, medications such as Guilu Dihuang Pills, Yougui Pills, or Jin Kui Shenqi Pills may be used. Acupuncture at specific points such as Mingmen (GV4) and Guanyuan (CV4) may also be performed by a qualified practitioner.
3. Qi Deficiency
Men with weak constitutions may develop qi deficiency, which can impair normal blood circulation and lead to chills and cold limbs. Under medical guidance, treatments may include herbal formulas such as Buzhong Yiqi Pills, Shenling Baizhu Powder, or Liu Junzi Pills. Acupuncture at points such as Zusanli (ST36) and Sanyinjiao (SP6) may also be administered as directed by a physician.
Besides the above causes, spleen deficiency may also be responsible. It is important to seek timely evaluation and treatment at the Traditional Chinese Medicine department of a reputable hospital. Doctors typically recommend oral medications, with commonly prescribed ones including Renshen Jianpi Pills, Fuzi Lizhong Pills, and Si Junzi Pills.
