Introduction
Oxytocin injection refers to the hormone oxytocin. For primiparas, labor usually begins 10 to 17 hours after administration of oxytocin, while for multiparas, delivery typically occurs within 2 to 8 hours. Oxytocin is a peptide hormone that directly acts on uterine muscle cells after administration, accelerating the release of prostaglandins, increasing the frequency of uterine smooth muscle contractions, and gradually relaxing the cervix, thereby inducing labor.

Oxytocin, also known as labor-inducing injection, generally results in delivery within 10 to 17 hours for first-time mothers and within 2 to 8 hours for women who have given birth before. The details are as follows:

1. First-time mothers

Oxytocin is a peptide hormone that directly acts on the myometrial cells of the uterus after administration, accelerating the release of prostaglandins and increasing the frequency of uterine smooth muscle contractions. It also gradually relaxes the cervix, thereby inducing labor. For first-time mothers, the body is in its original state, with the uterus and cervix relatively tense, leading to a longer labor process—approximately 24 hours. After using oxytocin, the duration of labor can be shortened, and delivery typically occurs within 10 to 17 hours.

2. Women who have given birth before (multiparous women)

Multiparous women have prior childbirth experience; their vaginal tissues are more relaxed, and cervical dilation occurs faster. Therefore, during delivery, resistance to the fetus is reduced. After administering oxytocin, delivery usually takes place within 2 to 8 hours. In addition to shortening labor, oxytocin helps expel residual uterine tissue during uterine contractions and promotes the closure of blood sinuses, thus helping prevent postpartum hemorrhage.

It is recommended to monitor the intensity of uterine contractions after administration, maintain a light diet, and keep emotions stable.
