Introduction
Patients with deep overbite may have inward tilting of the maxilla, which can make the face appear narrower and potentially accentuate a squarish facial appearance. After correction, as the inward inclination of the maxilla improves, the facial shape may visually become wider, with a fuller and more harmonious contour, thereby reducing the appearance of a square face. Since each person's bone structure is unique, the changes following deep overbite correction vary from individual to individual.

There is usually some degree of facial change before and after correction of a square face with deep overbite, but the specific changes vary depending on individual differences. If the treatment plan focuses primarily on tooth alignment, facial changes may not be significant.

Patients with deep overbite may have an inwardly inclined maxilla, which makes the face appear narrower and can accentuate the characteristics of a square face. After orthodontic correction, as the inward inclination of the maxilla improves, the face may visually appear wider, with a fuller and more harmonious facial contour, thereby reducing the appearance of a square face. In addition, poor occlusal habits in patients with deep overbite may cause the mandible to sit relatively posteriorly, making the chin appear smaller. After correction, as the occlusal relationship improves, the chin's shape may also change—typically becoming more prominent and well-defined, which helps improve the jawline in square-faced individuals.

Since everyone’s skeletal structure and facial features are unique, post-correction facial changes vary significantly from person to person. Some individuals with a square face may experience only minimal changes or even no noticeable difference after treatment. If the orthodontic plan emphasizes dental alignment and occlusion with limited modification to facial bones, the alteration in facial appearance may be subtle.

Prior to undergoing correction for deep overbite, patients should fully understand their own facial characteristics and skeletal structure and communicate thoroughly with their orthodontist to understand the treatment plan and expected outcomes. After treatment, patients should follow the doctor’s recommendations for regular follow-up visits and maintenance to ensure optimal results and long-term oral health.
