Introduction
At 6 weeks of pregnancy, the absence of a yolk sac may occur in women with longer menstrual cycles, as ovulation is relatively delayed, causing the yolk sac to appear later than usual. It could also be due to embryonic development stopping, which interferes with the growth and development of the yolk sac, making it invisible during ultrasound examination. Additionally, if the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, the yolk sac may not be observed either.

At 6 weeks of pregnancy, the absence of a yolk sac may be a normal phenomenon or could indicate a pathological condition, such as embryonic arrest or ectopic pregnancy. The specific analysis is as follows:

1. Normal Phenomenon

For women who have relatively long menstrual cycles, ovulation may also be delayed, which in turn delays the time when the yolk sac becomes visible. This is considered normal. Generally, after a follow-up examination one week later, both the yolk sac and embryo should become visible.

2. Pathological Conditions

1) Embryonic Arrest
When an embryo stops developing early in pregnancy, it affects the surrounding tissues and blood supply, thereby interfering with the growth and development of the yolk sac. As a result, the yolk sac cannot be observed during ultrasound examination.

2) Ectopic Pregnancy
When a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, the yolk sac will not be visible within the uterine cavity. Instead, embryonic and placental tissues may be detected in the fallopian tube or other abnormal locations.

If no yolk sac is detected during early pregnancy, it is recommended to undergo regular follow-up examinations at the hospital. If the yolk sac remains absent over an extended period, appropriate medical interventions should be promptly followed as directed by a physician.
