How to treat pain on the outer side of the left elbow joint
Pain on the outer side of the left elbow joint may be treated differently depending on the underlying cause. Common causes include trauma, lateral humeral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), and cubital tunnel syndrome. Specific treatments are as follows:
1. Trauma
If pain on the outer side of the joint results from external impact to the left arm, immobilization and rest are recommended, along with conservative treatments such as heat therapy, acupuncture, and warm compresses. In cases of obvious fracture displacement, surgical intervention may be required to restore stability of the joint.
2. Lateral Humeral Epicondylitis
If repetitive or prolonged activity of the left upper limb, or excessive physical strain, affects elbow function, pressing on the lateral epicondyle of the humerus may cause significant pain. It is recommended to take anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications under medical supervision, such as diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets, ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, or celecoxib capsules, to control inflammation and relieve pain.
3. Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
When there is evident fascial proliferation or thickening in the ulnar nerve groove on the medial side of the elbow, the passing ulnar nerve may become compressed, leading to joint discomfort and pain. Under medical guidance, neurotrophic medications such as mecobalamin tablets, adenosylcobalamin tablets, or vitamin B1 tablets may be taken orally to nourish the nerves and improve symptoms.
In addition, conditions such as degenerative osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis may also cause similar symptoms. If other discomforts accompany the pain, prompt medical evaluation and treatment are advised.
