Fiberoptic bronchoscopy is primarily used for examining lung conditions. If a patient has a good pain tolerance, local anesthesia under a doctor's guidance is usually sufficient. However, if the patient experiences significant discomfort and cannot tolerate the procedure, general anesthesia may be administered under medical supervision.

They should fast for approximately four hours before the procedure and continue fasting for two to three hours afterward to avoid worsening local edema.
