Introduction
A traditional Chinese medicine decoction is generally prepared by boiling the herbal mixture twice. Before decocting, the herbs are usually soaked in room-temperature water for 30 to 60 minutes. After soaking, add water until it is 2–3 cm above the herbs. Begin with a high heat (boiling) and then switch to low heat (simmering), maintaining a gentle boil to prevent overflow or rapid evaporation. The two decoctions are then strained to remove residue, combined, and mixed thoroughly. The resulting liquid can be taken in 2–3 divided doses.
