How is sciatica and menstrual pain caused?
Generally, sciatica is mainly caused by factors such as trauma, lumbar disc herniation, and piriformis syndrome. After onset, different treatment methods should be selected according to the specific underlying cause. Details are as follows:
1. Trauma
If the sciatic nerve area suffers external impact in daily life, it may directly damage the nerve and surrounding soft tissues, leading to local symptoms such as swelling and pain. In such cases, medications like Luo Luo Tong oil, Carthamus oil, or Huoxue Zhitong plasters may be used under medical guidance.
2. Lumbar Disc Herniation
In patients with pre-existing lumbar disc herniation, degenerative changes in the nucleus pulposus, annulus fibrosus, and cartilage plates can easily compress adjacent nerves, resulting in clinical symptoms such as lower back pain, sciatica, and numbness in the lower limbs. In such cases, medications such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets, and mecobalamin tablets may be taken under medical supervision.
3. Piriformis Syndrome
This condition is usually caused by injury to the piriformis muscle, which then irritates or compresses the sciatic nerve. After onset, it may lead to sciatica, local congestion and edema, and restricted movement. Under medical guidance, physical therapies such as ultrashort wave therapy, microwave therapy, and infrared heat therapy can be used to alleviate symptoms.
Besides the above-mentioned causes, sciatica may also result from conditions such as spinal arthritis, chronic hip arthritis, or spinal cord tumors. When a patient experiences discomfort, timely medical consultation is recommended. During treatment, adequate rest should be ensured and excessive physical strain should be avoided.
