Introduction
In general, sharp pain in the left arm is often related to physiological causes and can be relieved with proper rest; however, it may also result from pathological conditions such as periarthritis or fasciitis, which may require medication. Besides these causes, conditions such as synovitis, gouty arthritis, or cervical spondylosis could also be responsible. It is recommended to ensure adequate rest, improve quality of life, and cooperate with medical treatment as directed by a physician.

Under normal circumstances, sharp pain in the left arm is often related to physiological causes and can be relieved with proper rest; however, it may also be associated with pathological conditions such as shoulder periarthritis or fasciitis, which may require medical treatment. A detailed analysis is as follows:

I. Physiological Causes

Prolonged strenuous activities—such as lifting heavy objects, weightlifting, or playing basketball—can increase strain on the arm and lead to lactic acid buildup, resulting in pain and discomfort. Symptoms typically resolve gradually with rest and immobilization, without requiring special treatment.

II. Pathological Causes

1. Shoulder Periarthritis (Frozen Shoulder)

Degenerative changes in the soft tissues of the shoulder can cause joint friction during movement, leading to pain and restricted function. Patients may take non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) as prescribed by a physician—such as ibuprofen sustained-release capsules, diclofenac sodium sustained-release tablets, or indomethacin enteric-coated tablets—to effectively relieve pain.

2. Fasciitis

If the arm has recently suffered a sprain or excessive strain, the myofascial tissue may become damaged, causing joint pain and swelling. In severe cases, normal movement may be impossible. Under medical guidance, local block therapy may be used to reduce stimulation to the central nervous system and promote recovery.

In addition to the above, conditions such as synovitis, gouty arthritis, or cervical spondylosis could also be potential causes. It is recommended that patients prioritize adequate rest upon experiencing such symptoms, improve their quality of life, and actively cooperate with medical treatment.
