What causes persistent brown discharge?
There is always brown discharge, which may be caused by non-pathological factors, or could be related to pathological causes such as threatened abortion or vaginitis. It is recommended to identify the underlying cause and receive appropriate treatment. The specific analysis is as follows:
I. Non-disease Factors
During ovulation, hormonal levels in the body change and may fail to adequately support the endometrium, leading to slight shedding of the endometrial lining, which is expelled along with vaginal secretions, possibly appearing brown. This typically does not require special treatment. After conception, as the fertilized egg implants into the uterus, a small amount of endometrial shedding may also result in brown discharge.
II. Disease-related Factors
1. Threatened Abortion
Before 28 weeks of pregnancy, due to factors such as genetics, endocrine imbalances, immune issues, or infections, partial embryonic tissue or endometrial shedding may lead to minor bleeding, resulting in brownish discharge. It is recommended to improve nutrition, ensure adequate rest, and follow medical advice to take oral medications such as dydrogesterone tablets or progesterone capsules. Intramuscular progesterone injections may also be used for fetal preservation therapy.
2. Vaginitis
Inflammatory changes in the vaginal mucosa caused by pathogenic factors can lead to obvious congestion and edema. Rupture of capillaries may result in slight bleeding. It is recommended to undergo relevant examinations to identify the type of pathogen. Based on medical guidance, patients may use medications such as metronidazole suppositories, tinidazole suppositories, clindamycin phosphate gel, clotrimazole suppositories, metronidazole tablets, tinidazole tablets, or fluconazole tablets.
In addition, conditions such as cervicitis, endometritis, uterine tumors, or endometrial tumors may also cause brown discharge. It is recommended to seek timely medical evaluation through routine vaginal discharge tests and abdominal ultrasound to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment under a doctor's supervision.
