Introduction
Dietary Restrictions for Elderly Patients with Nephrotic Syndrome: Patients should avoid high-fat, high-sodium, and fried foods, as these can exacerbate the renal burden and impair kidney function and metabolism. Sodium intake must be strictly limited in patients with impaired renal function—ideally to less than 6 g per day, in accordance with international guidelines. For patients with proteinuria or severe renal injury, sodium intake should be further restricted to 2 g or even 1 g of salt per day.

It is not recommended to consume foods high in fat, salt, or those that are fried, as these can increase the burden on the kidneys and lead to alterations in renal metabolic function. For patients with impaired kidney function, sodium intake must be restricted—ideally to less than the internationally recommended standard of 6 g per day.

If proteinuria or severe kidney injury is present, sodium intake should be further reduced—to 2 g or even 1 g of salt per day. However, the precise target must be determined based on clinical evaluation and laboratory test results.

Simply avoiding excessively salty foods and restricting dietary sodium intake can effectively protect kidney function.
