Steps for Potassium Permanganate Sitz Bath in Women
Under normal circumstances, potassium permanganate sitz baths can help inhibit bacterial growth, reduce wound pain and swelling, and promote wound healing. The specific steps are as follows:
1. Prepare a clean basin and towel, and sterilize them by rinsing with boiling water.
2. Add an appropriate amount of boiling water to the basin. When the water temperature drops to 40°C, add potassium permanganate to achieve a concentration of 1/5000, resulting in a pale pink color.
3. Cleanse vaginal secretions, then begin the sitz bath, which typically lasts 10–15 minutes.
4. After the bath, dry the legs and perineal skin thoroughly and put on clothes.
Before beginning the sitz bath, make sure to empty your bladder and bowels to prevent contamination of the solution from subsequent excretions. Also maintain a comfortable room temperature to avoid catching a chill. It is recommended to perform the sitz bath under medical supervision to prevent any potential harm to the body.
