How to use a blood glucose meter to measure blood sugar

A blood glucose meter is a common device used to measure blood sugar levels and can monitor the concentration of glucose in a patient's blood. It is recommended to use the blood glucose meter under the guidance of a doctor. The specific operating steps are as follows:

1. Prepare materials: Take out the blood glucose meter and prepare necessary supplies such as cotton balls, alcohol, and lancets.

2. Disinfect and collect blood: After washing hands thoroughly, the patient should sit down and massage the finger intended for blood sampling. Use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol to disinfect the fingertip. Insert the lancet into the sampling site, discard the first drop of blood, and apply the second drop onto the test strip.

3. Stop bleeding: Press the puncture site with a dry cotton swab to prevent continued bleeding.

4. Read the value: Wait a few seconds until the glucose meter automatically displays the reading, and record the blood glucose level accurately.

5. Clean up: Properly dispose of or store used items such as test strips, lancets, and cotton swabs.

Blood sampling sites should be rotated alternately; consistently using the same site may lead to scar formation. Factors such as residual alcohol on the finger, insufficient blood sample volume, or expired test strips may affect the accuracy of blood glucose measurements.
