How to measure blood glucose using a blood glucose meter
Blood glucose meters can be used to monitor blood sugar levels. It is recommended to use a blood glucose meter under the guidance of a doctor. The specific operating steps are as follows:
1. Inserting the test strip: Turn on the blood glucose meter. When a droplet symbol appears on the screen, insert the blood glucose test strip into the meter in the correct direction.
2. Disinfection: Wash your hands thoroughly, then use a cotton swab dipped in an appropriate amount of alcohol to disinfect the fingertip from which blood will be drawn.
3. Blood collection: After allowing the alcohol to air dry, use the lancet to puncture the designated site on the finger. Squeeze out the first drop of blood and wipe it away. Then, apply the second drop of blood vertically onto the test strip, allowing it to be absorbed by capillary action.
4. Reading the result: Press the puncture site with a dry cotton swab and wait for the blood glucose reading to appear on the meter's display.
5. Clean up: Properly dispose of or store used items such as test strips and cotton swabs.
When disinfecting the finger, use alcohol only—do not use iodine tincture, as this may lead to inaccurate test results.
