Introduction
The procedure for bloodletting from the sublingual veins consists of the following steps: preoperative disinfection, preparation of surgical instruments, puncturing to release blood, and cotton ball compression. The patient is asked to curl the tongue upward to expose the veins under the tongue. The acupoints are identified inside the oral cavity—Jinjin (金津) on the left vein and Yuye (玉液) on the right vein, both located on the sublingual frenulum. A three-edged needle is then used to perform the puncturing and bloodletting.

Generally, the procedure for sublingual venipuncture can be divided into the following steps: preoperative disinfection, preparation of surgical instruments, puncture and bloodletting, and cotton ball compression. The specific steps are as follows:

1. Ask the patient to curl the tongue upward to expose the sublingual veins.

2. Thoroughly disinfect the area on the sublingual vein where the needle will be inserted.

3. Prepare the bloodletting instrument, such as a three-edged needle, and disinfect it.

4. Position the patient in a sitting posture, with the mouth widely opened to fully expose the sublingual blood vessels.

5. Locate the acupoints—Jinjin (on the left-side vein along the sublingual frenulum) and Yuye (on the right-side vein along the sublingual frenulum)—and perform puncture bloodletting using a three-edged needle.

6. Wipe away the blood, rinse the mouth with cooled boiled water, and apply pressure to the puncture site using a sterile cotton ball until bleeding stops.

Sublingual venipuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine therapy. Although the procedure may appear simple, it does carry certain risks. It is recommended to undergo this treatment only under the guidance of a qualified medical professional; self-treatment should be avoided.
