Introduction
Vertical ridges and indentations on a woman's nails may be caused by prolonged exposure to water, vitamin deficiencies, nail fungus (onychomycosis), lichen planus, anemia, or other factors. In such cases, it is important to seek medical evaluation promptly and receive treatment under a doctor's guidance. If a woman frequently comes into contact with water or uses her hands extensively at work, this may affect the nails. However, in the absence of discomfort or other symptoms, such nail changes are usually normal.

Vertical ridges and indentations on a woman's nails may be caused by prolonged exposure to water, vitamin deficiencies, onychomycosis (fungal nail infection), lichen planus, anemia, or other factors. In such cases, it is important to seek medical evaluation promptly and receive treatment under a doctor's guidance. Specific causes are analyzed as follows:

1. Prolonged exposure to water

If a woman frequently comes into contact with water or performs repetitive hand movements at work, this may affect the nails. If there are no discomfort symptoms, it is usually considered normal and does not require treatment.

2. Vitamin deficiency

Vitamin deficiency in the body can lead to poor nutrition of the skin and nails, resulting in vertical ridges and indentations, often accompanied by dry skin and fatigue. In such cases, patients should take supplements such as B-complex vitamins or multivitamin tablets (29-II) under medical supervision to improve symptoms.

3. Onychomycosis (fungal nail infection)

Onychomycosis is typically associated with fungal infections, which can cause brittle nails, surface pitting, and mild itching. Patients should follow medical advice and use antifungal medications such as Coral Fungus Cleaner (Suo Huo Xuan Jing) or Amorolfine Hydrochloride Solution for treatment.

4. Lichen planus

Lichen planus is a common condition affecting the nails, often presenting as thinning, flattening, or whitish to yellowish-brown discoloration of the nails. It may also involve longitudinal grooves or changes in transverse nail texture. Patients are advised to follow prescribed treatments using medications such as Itraconazole Granules or Voriconazole.

5. Anemia

Anemia refers to a deficiency of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the body, which may result from various causes such as malnutrition or iron deficiency. In cases of anemia, women may develop vertical ridges and indentations on their nails. Treatment may include iron supplements such as Iron Dextran Dispersible Tablets or Ferrous Fumarate Chewable Tablets, taken as directed by a physician.

Patients are advised to seek timely medical care when experiencing any abnormalities and to undergo standardized treatment under professional guidance to promote recovery.
