Introduction
If there is a hard lump behind the ear, it may take about one week to disappear if caused by folliculitis, around 7 to 10 days if due to swollen lymph nodes, and approximately 1 to 2 weeks if resulting from a sebaceous cyst. It is recommended that patients pay attention to proper local care in daily life and avoid scratching the area with hands.

If there is a hard lump behind the ear, the time required for it to disappear varies depending on the cause. If it is folliculitis, it may take about one week to resolve; if it is swollen lymph nodes, resolution may take 7–10 days; and if it is a sebaceous cyst, it might take 1–2 weeks to go away. Specific analyses are as follows:

1. Folliculitis

When hair follicles behind the ear are damaged, bacteria may invade and trigger an inflammatory response, leading to the formation of pus-filled blisters behind the ear, often accompanied by symptoms such as pain and itching. In such cases, patients may apply fusidic acid cream or mupirocin ointment topically under medical guidance. With proper treatment, symptoms may resolve in approximately one week.

2. Swollen Lymph Nodes

Localized lymphadenitis can lead to enlarged lymph nodes, causing the aforementioned symptoms, along with local redness, swelling, and tenderness. Under a doctor's supervision, treatment with medications such as amoxicillin capsules or roxithromycin capsules may be prescribed. The swelling typically resolves within 7–10 days with appropriate therapy.

3. Sebaceous Cyst

Obstruction of sebaceous gland secretion behind the ear may result in a retention cyst, which feels firm upon touch. This condition usually requires surgical intervention. After surgery, the lump generally disappears within 1–2 weeks.

Patients should maintain proper hygiene and care of the affected area in daily life and avoid scratching it with hands. If discomfort or symptoms occur, prompt medical evaluation and treatment are recommended.
