Hard small flesh-colored growths on the neck
Small fleshy growths on the neck that feel hard may be caused by conditions such as folliculitis, flat warts, or filiform warts, and timely medical treatment at a hospital is necessary. Specific causes are as follows:
1. Folliculitis
This condition is mainly associated with bacterial infection and decreased immune function. It may lead to small fleshy skin growths that feel firm to the touch. Treatment may include topical application of medications such as erythromycin ointment or fusidic acid cream, under a doctor's guidance.
2. Flat Warts
These are typically viral infections caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), commonly appearing on the face and back of the hands. Skin lesions usually present as raised small flesh-colored bumps. Treatment may involve topical application of medications such as isotretinoin-erythromycin gel or fluorouracil cream, as directed by a physician.
3. Filiform Warts
Also caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), this contagious condition commonly occurs on the neck, forehead, and eyelids. It is characterized by small, thread-like, pointed projections with an uneven surface. Topical treatments such as imiquimod cream or acyclovir ointment may be used under medical supervision.
In addition to the above, such growths may also result from lipomas, skin tags (soft fibromas), or thyroid nodules. Avoid scratching with hands and maintain cleanliness in the affected area.
